Compass
General Information:
The Computerized-Adaptive Placement Assessment and Support System (COMPASS) is an un-timed, computer-based examination comprised of three (3) sections that cover reading, writing, and mathematics: it is reserved for students who have been out of an education setting for three (3) or more years and is good for admission to Arkansas Tech University only. On average, the COMPASS test takes an hour and a half to complete.
Cost:
1 or more sections: $30.00 (cash only, no checks)
Retake of any or all sections: $30.00 (cash only, no checks)
Scores:
The scores on the COMPASS test will not transfer to another university unless specified by that institution. Students expecting to go to another institution or intending to transfer to another school should take the National ACT, or complete their general education requirements prior to transferring.
Testing Schedule:
Call for availability
*University Testing requires the $30.00 cash before being able to schedule a person for the COMPASS test. If you live outside of the area and are unable to come by the office to pay, it is acceptable to fax the information needed and to send in a money order made out to Arkansas Tech University.
Wait Time Between Test:
A student does not need to wait to retake one or more sections of the COMPASS test. In theory, a student could take the COMPASS twice in one day. However, even if the student is only retaking one section of the exam, he or she will still have to pay $30.00 to retake that section.
Study Guides:
University Testing has no official study guide for the COMPASS. However, the “ACT Assessment” booklet within the ACT National registration packet will give a client a good idea of the kinds of questions that may be asked on the English, Reading, and Math sections of the COMPASS. Additional aids (ACT National study guides) can also be found at Hastings or a similar bookstore.
