Arkansas Assessment of General Education
"Rising Junior Exam"

Arkansas law requires that every public institution of higher education implement the Arkansas Assessment of General Education or AAGE (sometimes called a "rising junior exam") as an assessment of learning in the general education curriculum. At TECH, the AAGE is required for all students who have completed between 44 and 60 hours (transitional courses excluded) before the beginning of the current semester. Students who had completed over 60 semester hours before January 1, 1995, are exempt.

Students will not be allowed to re-enroll at TECH if the exam is not completed in a timely manner. All who qualify to test will be notified by mail of registration and testing dates.

At TECH, the AAGE uses ACT's CAAP test (the College Assessment of Academic Proficiency) and comprises, for each student, one essay section and one multiple choice section. The multiple choice section for each student will be in one of the following areas: writing skills, mathematics, critical thinking, and science reasoning. Approved calculators are allowed for those taking the mathematics section. The exam requires approximately two hours to complete.

The AAGE is administered once each semester (fall and spring), with two small make-up sessions given throughout the year. In the spring 2007 term, it will be administered in Pendergraft Library, Room 300.
